The Hokies Stole the Show at the Portsmouth Sports Club

The Portsmouth Sports Club welcomed Virginia Tech's Senior Director of Development for Intercollegiate Athletic, Lu Merritt, to its June meeting. A former college athlete himself, Lu enjoyed the opportunity to speak to other like-minded individuals interested in supporting athletics, both at the high school and collegiate levels. Having recently attended the national conference for NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics), Lu was able to offer relevant information and first-hand insight regarding issues currently up for discussion in the realm of college athletics.

With a few members of the Tidewater Hokie Club in attendance, Lu made sure to highlight some exciting developments concerning Virginia Tech athletics, particularly the progress of the new indoor practice facility. The benefits of the new indoor facility spread beyond just football as it opens up opportunities for not only football, but for baseball, lacrosse, and many other sports to utilize the space when available. The track and field teams can then be housed in the former football practice facility, the Rector Field House, for indoor workouts.
